Promoting artists and art, through exhibitions, education and fellowship
Victoria Johnson
I hold a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University. I use many mediums, such as pencil, pen & ink, Copic markers, and recently digital compositions. My recent surreal montages, compiled from late 19th-century photographs, family pictures, and found images are a journey into the realm of dreams, memories, and fantasy. During quarantine me and my friend Patrick Harvey created 4 self-published books; combining imagery and poetry that participate in a call and response.
I worked with the curator at SIU as an assistant and went on from there to help design exhibits for a small history museum. I have taught art at the community college level while raising two boys and worked at the Drury Library as System Admin and web designer. Art and music were on the back burner during this time; I am excited to be creating art and making music again.
I look at art as a story telling event, allowing the viewer to explore possible story lines. I take my vintage images and explore different life journies for them.
