Sandi Green Baker

“Raised as a wild child on the banks of the Finley River, Sandi Green Baker has been an artist as far back as she can remember drawing with sticks in the mud, painting with plants and berries, and creating artistic installations in the woods.

She never gave up her passion so pursuing a career as an art teacher seemed logical. What a glorious career it was getting paid to make messes and to

inspire young people to love art.

Sandi has had many artistic opportunities come her way, such as working for the late and great Governor Mel Carnahan with his pet project, the Walt Disney Children’s Art Festival, teaching six summers in Japan at a summer day camp, and being chosen as Missouri Elementary Art Teacher of the Year.

Sandi has worked in every possible medium and prefers to work bigger than large. She strives for mistakes to happen with her creative process and loves a good problem-solving challenge.

In the past few years of retirement, she has discovered the art that she feels she has been waiting for — Crankies, or sometimes called moving panoramic storytelling machines that incorporate all her loves of illustration, storytelling, theater, puppetry and live music.”

Sandi’s daughter, Re Baker-Dietz, will also be at our meeting to discuss Arrow Creative Reuse, the local art supply thrift store located on St. Louis Street in Springfield.
